Have you ever had Alternative Baking Company’s Luscious Lemon Poppyseed vegan cookies?! Each batch is handmade with only the most natural and organic ingredients, while also being completely free of dairy, eggs, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, cholesterol, animal bi-products and artificial ingredients. Every bite of one of their cookies is heavenly delicious and I highly suggest you try one (& they ship for FREE anywhere in the US!). I have yet to be able to find a location on Guam that sells these wonderful delights, but my search and desire for lemon poppyseed cookies continues. It is my love for their cookies that inspired me to make myself some lemon poppy seed body scrub.
Lemon is a great addition to any skin care regimen because of its many beneficial qualities. Lemons contain loads of Vitamin C and antioxidants, which help to fight free radicals on the skin, as well as fruit acids and sugars that aid with exfoliation. The best part about making your own skin care products at home is that you get to experiment with ingredients and flavors, so feel free to substitute in your favorite essential oils and flavors to create a natural product that is purely you! The recipe I chose to use is simple, natural and refreshing:
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons of almond/coconut oil
- 8 drops of lemon essential oil
- 1 tablespoon of poppyseeds
- Zest of one lemon
Mix together sugar, lemon zest and poppy seeds until you get an even mixture. Then add together the coconut oil and lemon essential oil & mix until blended. Add all of your mixtures together into a sealed container & keep it fresh in the refrigerator for up to a week. To preserve your scrubs freshness, avoid getting any water into your container.
To Use: Apply to damp skin and massage in slow, circular motion. Just like your dry brushing, keep your massage movements working towards your heart, starting at your toes and working your way up. Enjoy!
